You're standing in Piazza Colonna in Rome, at the Column of Marcus Aurelius, right in front of the Palazzo Chigi. The column has never moved from this spot. It's about thirty metres tall and stands on a base of around ten metres. Below that is a three-metre platform that disappeared under the street as the ground level of Rome rose.
