How Outdoor Pitstop works
Quickly find a bench, water fountain, toilet, bike pump or something to eat on the go. And make the map better together.
Find
Five kinds of facilities
Benches, water fountains, public toilets, bike pumps and food stands. One spot with such a facility is what we call a pitstop. There are more than 3 million on the map, in 44 European countries.
Map, list and search
Search for a town, street or building, or look around on the map. Filter by kind, then by type and features, such as a covered bench or a toilet that is always open.
Navigate
In the app you walk or cycle along a route to a pitstop, or past a whole list. A stop counts as reached when you are within 30 metres.
Help
On the spot
Photos, reviews, check-ins, type and features and new pitstops are added in the app when you are within 50 metres. That keeps the map right: nobody can invent spots from their sofa.
Is it still there?
If nobody has confirmed a pitstop for a year, the app asks whether it is still there. When three people say “gone”, it disappears from the map.
Improve name or spot
Is the name wrong, or is the pin slightly off? Suggest an improvement. When two others confirm it on the spot, it goes through.
Points and levels
Earn XP
Every contribution earns XP, for example 50 for a new pitstop and 15 for a photo. With XP you climb ten levels, from Scout to Legend.
Streak, patches and leaderboard
Keep a streak going every week, earn patches in bronze, silver and gold, and compare yourself with your home town, region and country. The top 3 get a trophy every month.
Pro
New users are Pro for the first 4 weeks: check-ins, shared lists and 10% extra XP. Reach level 4 in that time and you stay Pro for life.
Discover
Stories at points of interest
Thousands of points of interest in Europe come with a short story, often one to listen to as well. With Pro you check in on the spot and unlock the story.
Lists
Save pitstops with the heart and make your own lists, such as a loop with benches and a toilet halfway. With Pro you share a list with others.
On the website
Per town and per kind
Every town, region and country has its own page with the map of the app and a top 20 that moves with the map.
Sign in and save
Sign in with Apple or Google, with the same account as in the app. Save pitstops with the heart and see on the map where you have been.
Send to your phone
Found on your computer, used on your phone: scan the QR code or send the pitstop to the app with one click.
