You're standing at Jagdschloss Grunewald, on the southern shore of the Grunewaldsee. This white hunting lodge is the oldest surviving castle in Berlin. Elector Joachim II had it built in 1542 and 1543 and called it Zum grünen Wald, to the green forest. That name later spread to the whole forest around you: the Grunewald.
