You're standing on John-F.-Kennedy-Platz, in front of Rathaus Schöneberg. Start with the building itself. This sandstone town hall went up between 1911 and 1914, when Schöneberg was still an independent city. It only became part of Greater Berlin in 1920. Now look up at the tower. Since 1950 it has held the Freedom Bell, a gift from the United States.
