You're standing at the Neues Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. New it is not: it was built between 1843 and 1855, the second museum on this island. King Frederick William IV of Prussia ordered it, and architect Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Schinkel, designed it. It was meant for everything that no longer fitted in the Altes Museum next door.
