You're standing at the Pergamon Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. This huge three-winged building went up between 1910 and 1930, on the orders of Emperor Wilhelm the Second. Architect Alfred Messel drew up the design, and after his death in 1909 his friend Ludwig Hoffmann finished the job. Together with the rest of Museum Island, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
