You're standing at the Vondel Monument, right in the middle of the park that took its name from this statue. Look up at the poet. Joost van den Vondel sits relaxed on a chair, a laurel wreath on his head. In one hand he holds a goose quill, and an open book rests on his knee. He's gazing upward, as if he's still hunting for the right word. At his feet lies a book by Virgil. The bronze figure is well over two metres tall and was designed by Louis Royer.
