You're standing on the corner of the Amstel river and the Zwanenburgwal canal, right beside the Stopera, the building that houses both City Hall and the opera. In front of you rises a tall column of black granite. On top you'll see the stone tablets of the Law. This is the Monument to the Jewish Resistance 1940-1945, in memory of all the Jewish resistance fighters who died in the Second World War.
