You're standing on the Prins Hendrikkade, in front of the Scheepvaarthuis, the Shipping House. Take a good look, because this whole building tells a story about the sea. It's seen as the very first building in the Amsterdam School style. And it stands on a special spot: this is where Cornelis de Houtman set off on the first Dutch voyage to the East Indies, in 1595.
