You're standing at the Jewish Museum, on the Jonas Daniël Meijerplein, in the heart of Amsterdam's old Jewish Quarter. Take a look at the buildings around you. The museum isn't in one building, but in four former synagogues. The oldest is the Great Synagogue from 1671. Then came the Obbene Shul in 1685, the Dritt Shul in 1700 and the New Synagogue around 1752. These were the synagogues of the German Jewish community. The entrance is on the Nieuwe Amstelstraat, in a covered space between the synagogues. And just across the road stands the Portuguese Synagogue, the Snoge.
