Mouse Fort in Gooise Meren

You're standing at the Muizenfort, the Mouse Fort, on the edge of the old fortified town of Muiden. This solid brick building is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, the ring of forts around the capital. It was built between 1874 and 1877 on an outwork by the Naarden Gate. Its job was simple: nobody was to slip into town along the sea dyke or the old towing canal to Naarden.
