Auschwitz Memorial in Amsterdam

You're standing in the Wertheimpark in Amsterdam, at the Auschwitz Monument. Look at the glass panels, full of cracks, like broken mirrors. Look into them and you'll see the sky. But that sky is shattered. That was exactly what Jan Wolkers intended, the writer and artist who designed it. After Auschwitz, he said, even heaven can never be whole again. The monument carries the words Never Again Auschwitz.
