You're standing on the banks of the Amstel, in front of the H'ART Museum. Take a look at that long, stately façade. This is the Amstelhof, designed in 1681 by city carpenter Hans Petersom in the Dutch Classicist style. The building is one big square around a courtyard. It almost looks like a palace, but it was something quite different: a home for the elderly.
