You're standing at the Bismarck Memorial, on the Großer Stern in Berlin's Tiergarten. Look up at the figure on top. That's Otto von Bismarck, Prime Minister of Prussia and the first Chancellor of the German Empire. He's dressed in his ceremonial chancellor's uniform, upright and full of confidence. The memorial was unveiled in 1901, and it was the last major work by sculptor Reinhold Begas, who also designed Berlin's national monument to Emperor Wilhelm.
