You're standing at Kasteel Borgharen, on the river Meuse, in the north of Maastricht. The village is named after the castle: Borgharen means the stronghold of Haren, after the Van Haren family who lived here. Look at the main building. It's semicircular, with a classical façade of local marl stone from 1785 and a stone terrace with a double staircase. Family coats of arms are worked into the balcony railing. On either side stand heavy square towers and long, low wings in the Renaissance style of the Meuse region. The whole complex sits inside a wide moat.
