You're standing at Huis Severen in Amby, on the eastern edge of Maastricht. Start with the main house behind the wide moat. Red brick, a neat symmetrical front and a hipped roof with clipped ends. It looks more like a Dutch country house than a castle in Limburg. Mayor Godert van Slijpe had it built in 1742, on the site of a much older house from the late Middle Ages.
