You're standing at Cartils Castle, on the road between Wijlre and Wittem. It's a lovely rural spot, right by the Eyserbeek stream. Just a little further on, the Eyserbeek, the Geul and the Gulp all flow together. Take a look at the building. The rectangular house is mostly seventeenth century, although it was heavily remodelled in 1883. On one front corner there's a little turret that seems to hang off the wall. Round the back stands a sturdy round tower. That's the oldest part, from around 1500.
