You're standing at Vaalsbroek Castle, on the road between Vaals and Maastricht, close to the hamlet of Raren. Take a look at the shape. The castle is a U: a two-storey central wing, with a lower wing on each side. Together they wrap around a forecourt, closed off by a fence between stone pillars. Can you see the double staircase up to the first floor? And right on top, in the middle of the roof, a little bell tower?
