You're standing at the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg. It looks fairly ordinary from out here. Yet behind these walls was the main political prison of the Stasi, East Germany's secret police. Take a look at the red-brick building. It was finished in 1939 as a factory, making supplies for the soup kitchens of a Nazi welfare organisation.
