Museum The Carcer Tullianum in Rome

You're standing at the Mamertine Prison, at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, with the Roman Forum spread out in front of you. Look up first. What you see is a church, San Giuseppe dei Falegnami. It was built on top of the old prison in the late sixteenth century, probably for the carpenters' guild. But underneath it hides something far older.
