You're standing at the Ponte Nomentano, a Roman bridge across the river Aniene. The Via Nomentana once ran over it, an important road leading into Rome from the north. For most of its history the bridge sat well outside the city, nearly four kilometres beyond the Aurelian Wall. Today it stands in the middle of a park, and it's for pedestrians only.
