You're standing at Tre Fontane Abbey, a quiet spot just south of the centre of Rome. It's home to Trappist monks, and their grounds hold no fewer than three churches. The name means Three Fountains, and there's a remarkable legend behind it. Tradition says the apostle Paul was beheaded right here, on Nero's orders. His head is said to have bounced three times on the ground, and at each spot a spring burst out.
