You're standing in St. Peter's Square, right by the tall stone needle in the middle. This is the Vatican Obelisk, carved from a single block of red granite. The stone alone is over twenty-five metres tall. Add the base and the cross and you get close to forty metres. It weighs around 340,000 kilos. Notice something? There are no hieroglyphs on it at all.
