You're standing at the Domus Augustana, right on top of the Palatine Hill in Rome. All around you are the remains of the vast palace Emperor Domitian built around the year 92. This part was its residential heart. The name sounds like Emperor Augustus, but that's a bit of a trap. Later on, Augustus simply came to mean 'emperor'. So don't mix it up with the House of Augustus, just nearby. In ancient times the name may even have covered the whole palace.
