You're standing at Bolenstein, on the west bank of the river Vecht in Maarssen. A house like this is called a ridderhofstad: a fortified manor of a knightly family, with special privileges. Bolenstein is first mentioned in 1340. It probably owes its name to Derck van Bole, who is thought to have built it.
