You're standing at the Fort Hoofddijk Botanic Garden in Utrecht, on the edge of the Utrecht Science Park, which used to be called De Uithof. This is where Utrecht University keeps its living plant collection, on and around an old fort. The garden covers eight hectares, and by mid-2007 it held more than six thousand plant species.
