Paleis Lofen in Utrecht

You're standing between Domplein, the cathedral square, and the Oudegracht canal in Utrecht. Here, where ordinary houses stand today, there was an imperial palace around the year 1020. It was called Lofen. Look at the houses on the Vismarkt and Domplein. Beneath your feet, in their cellars, pieces of that palace still survive.
