You're standing on Waterstraat in Utrecht, at number 27. This is home to the Volksbuurtmuseum, a museum about a working-class neighbourhood that once surrounded this very spot: Wijk C. Have a look around and try to picture it a hundred years ago. Back then this was the most densely populated district in the city. Big families squeezed into small, run-down slum houses. With so little room indoors, life mostly happened outside, on the street.
