You're standing on the Palatine Hill, where, so the stories go, Rome began. Close to the so-called Hut of Romulus is the house that has long been called the House of Augustus. Augustus was Rome's first emperor, ruling from 27 BC to AD 14. Have a look around. The whole complex covers about 8,600 square metres and sits on two terraces.
