You're standing at San Saba, an ancient basilica on what's called the Lesser Aventine. That's the lower ridge between the Aventine and the Caelian Hill, right by the old Aurelian Walls. Have a look around. Today this is a city neighbourhood, but in photos from around 1900 the church and monastery still sat out in open countryside. The whole district is actually named after this church.
