You're standing on Whitehall, right in the middle of London's government district. Now imagine that everything around you was one enormous palace. From 1530 to 1698, this was the Palace of Whitehall, the main home of the English kings and queens. With more than fifteen hundred rooms, it was for a while the largest palace in Europe. Only Versailles eventually outgrew it.
