You're standing on Brick Lane, in the East End of London. Today this street is the heart of Britain's Bangladeshi community, and some people call the neighbourhood Banglatown. Have a look at the lamp posts. They're red and green, the colours of the Bangladesh flag. At the southern end, near Osborn Street, an ornamental arch in the same colours marks the gateway to Banglatown. The local Bengali community campaigned for it, and it went up in 1997.
