You're standing on the Place Vendôme, one of the five royal squares of Paris. Have a look around. Every façade matches, with arches at street level and clean classical lines. The corners are cut off at an angle, so the square almost looks like an octagon. The design is by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architect to Louis XIV.
