You're standing on the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville, the city hall of Paris. Take a moment with this façade. It's 143 metres long, and the bell tower in the middle reaches 50 metres. The central section, with the clock, follows the original Renaissance building. Now look at the statues in the niches. There are 338 of them, famous Parisians, made by some 230 sculptors. One of those sculptors was Auguste Rodin. In 1882 he made the figure of the mathematician d'Alembert. Beside the doors under the clock stand Art and Science.
