You're standing on the Place de la Concorde, next to the Luxor Obelisk. Look up along that stone needle. It was carved from a single piece of red granite, it's 23 metres tall, and it's more than three thousand years old. It was made in the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses the Second, around 1250 BC, and it stood with a twin at the entrance of the Luxor Temple in Egypt. That twin is still there.
