You're standing on the Place Vendôme in Paris, and right in the middle rises the Vendôme Column. Go on, look all the way up. It's more than forty-four metres tall and about three and a half metres across. Napoleon had it built between 1806 and 1810 to celebrate his victory at Austerlitz, and he borrowed the idea from Trajan's Column in Rome.
