You're standing by the Jeu de Paume, in the northern corner of the Tuileries Gardens, right next to Place de la Concorde. Take a look at this long, elegant building. It looks like a little palace, but Emperor Napoleon III had it built in 1861 as a sports hall. People played jeu de paume here, the ancestor of tennis, better known in English as real tennis. On the outside it was meant to match the Orangerie, which was already standing nearby.
