You're standing at the Musée Marmottan Monet, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne in the sixteenth arrondissement of Paris. From the outside it doesn't look like a big museum at all, but like an elegant town house. It started life as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Valmy. Jules Marmottan bought it in 1882, and his son Paul turned it into a grand private mansion.
