You're standing at the Musée Picasso, in the Marais district of Paris. The museum is housed in the Hôtel Salé, a seventeenth-century mansion on the Rue de Thorigny. The name means 'salted', and there's a good reason for that. The first owner, Pierre Aubert, got rich collecting the salt tax. Take a look at the façade: work on this house began in 1656, to a design by Jean Boullier from Bourges.
