You're standing in front of the Vienna State Opera, the largest opera house in Austria and one of the most famous in the world. Take a look at that grand Renaissance Revival façade. This was the very first major building on the Ringstrasse, the wide boulevard that circles the old city. Work started in 1861, and Emperor Franz Joseph paid the bill.
