You're standing at the Spanish Riding School, inside the Hofburg in Vienna, between Michaelerplatz and Josefsplatz. The name comes from the Spanish horses that formed one of the foundations of the breed ridden here: the Lipizzaner. The breed takes its name from the stud at Lipica, in today's Slovenia. Today the horses come from the Piber stud in Styria.
