Castle Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya in Barcelona

You're standing on Plaça de Sant Jaume, in front of the Palau de la Generalitat. This is where the Catalan government sits, and right across the square is Barcelona's City Hall. So the city and the region are literally staring each other down. This is one of the very few medieval buildings in Europe that still serves as the seat of the institution that built it.
