Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona

You're standing at Santa Maria del Mar, Saint Mary of the Sea, in the Ribera district of Barcelona. From the outside it looks massive and severe. The narrow streets around it make it hard to take in all at once. The best views are from the Plaça de Santa Maria and the Fossar de les Moreres, both of them former burial grounds. On the west front you'll see the great rose window. Saint Peter and Saint Paul stand in niches beside the door, and above it is the Saviour, between Our Lady and Saint John.
