You're standing at the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, south London. Start with the totem pole by the main entrance. It's about six metres tall and carved from red cedar. Nathan Jackson, a Tlingit from Alaska, made it in 1985. Its figures tell an Alaskan legend about a girl who married a bear, and at the top sits an eagle, Jackson's clan crest. There are only a handful of totem poles in the whole of the UK.
