You're standing on the Grote Markt in Haarlem, in front of the Grote Kerk, also known as St Bavo's Church. Look up at that slender tower in the middle of the roof, right where the nave and transept cross. It's made of wood and covered in lead. Originally a stone tower was meant to stand here, and one was actually built. But the pillars couldn't carry the weight, so it had to be taken down again. Around 1520 this lighter version replaced it.
