Slot Assumburg in Heemskerk

You're standing at Slot Assumburg, on the eastern edge of Heemskerk. It's named after Assum, a hamlet between Heemskerk and Uitgeest. Look at those sturdy towers and battlements. Looks impregnable, doesn't it? That's an illusion. The walls are actually far too thin to survive a siege. It's more of a stage set, an imitation medieval castle. The Dutch even have a word for it: a coulisse castle, named after theatre scenery.
