Fort bij Krommeniedijk in Uitgeest

You're standing at the Fort bij Krommeniedijk, on the edge of Uitgeest. It's one of the forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, a ring of defences around the capital. The idea was simple: in an attack, the land all around would be flooded, and the forts guarded the spots where you could still get through. This one watched over the Lagendijk dyke and the little river Crommenije.
