Fort bij Spijkerboor in Purmerend

You're standing at the Fort near Spijkerboor, on the western dike of the Beemster polder. This fort is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Look around at the water. Three waterways meet here: the North Holland Canal and the ring canals of the Beemster and the Starnmeer polders. That's exactly why the fort is here. Its job was to close off and defend these routes.
