You're standing on the Kaasmarkt, the cheese market square in Purmerend, in front of the Purmerend Museum. First, take a look at the building itself. This was the town hall. It was built in 1912 to a design by local master builder Jan Stuyt, replacing an older town hall that was knocked down in 1910. Only in 1996 did the town get a new town hall, on the Purmersteenweg.
