Hofje van Loo in Haarlem

You're standing on the Barrevoetestraat in Haarlem, in front of the Hofje van Loo. Look through the fence at the garden and the little houses around it. Notice anything unusual? With most of Haarlem's almshouse courtyards, the famous hofjes, you can't see a thing from the street. You have to go through a gate or down an alley first. This one is right out in the open. It's the most visible hofje in the city.
